Reynisdrangar: Sea+Wind+Fury

Reynisdrangar are a collection of huge (over 60metres/200ft) basalt sea-stacks sitting in the Atlantic Ocean off the black volcanic sands of Reynisfjara Beach near Vik in southern Iceland. The wind was whipping in mercilessly at around 60mph that day, needling my eyes with sand granules and making the sea wild & dangerous: this included the occasional 'sneaker' wave that can sweep up the beach very suddenly, grab you & carry you away. A beautiful but deadly place. Paddling not recommended...
